The biggest predictor of good therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist. Here's how I make starting feel safe and simple.
I'm Laura, a somatic therapist. My practice is small and personal, so the work we do together is genuinely collaborative.

Book your free consult →Somatic therapy is a body-based approach that helps you tune into physical sensations, nervous system responses, and stored emotional experience. Instead of only talking about what's happening, we notice where it lives in you.
This work helps you feel more regulated, present and in control, without forcing change.
When your mind won't switch off and your body stays on high alert.
You understand your patterns but they keep repeating anyway.
Moments of shutdown, numbness or feeling too much at once.
Unresolved experiences that still shape how you feel today.
Feeling cut off from your body, your emotions or the people around you.
The same dynamics showing up again and again in your relationships.
I'm Laura Grossman, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Berkeley, working with clients online across California and in person locally. My passion is helping individuals and couples navigate life's ups and downs and bring more happiness, connection, and confidence into their lives and relationships.
My practice is grounded in compassion, respect, and a deep understanding of what brings people to therapy. With advanced training in Somatic Experiencing, I work somatically and relationally, helping you move from feeling stuck and disconnected toward feeling grounded, cared for, and at home in yourself.
You're the true expert on yourself. Through a collaborative, non-judgmental approach, we'll work hand in hand toward who you are now and who you're aiming to be.
A small taste of how this work feels. Try this grounding practice whenever you need to come back to your body.
So much of healing trauma is learning, gently, to feel at home in your body again. You don't have to force anything. You simply begin to notice. This is one of the first practices I share with people, because it asks for nothing except a little curiosity.
Start by sitting comfortably in your seat. If it helps, close your eyes and take a few slow breaths. If deep breathing isn't available to you right now, that's okay. Just allow yourself to feel the contact between the seat and the back of your body.
Next, place your feet on the floor or whatever surface is available. If there's no surface, notice how your feet meet your shoes or the open air. Take some time to feel your feet as if you'd never noticed them before.
See if you can identify any sensations: the texture of your socks, a tingling, a warmth. Offer your feet a little space to release any tension, even just a tiny bit. If that isn't possible, simply imagine your feet as relaxed as they could possibly be. Rest here.
When you feel complete, gently wiggle your toes or blink your eyes to return to a more alert state before going about your day.
A gentle note: dropping into the body can sometimes bring up unexpected emotions. If you find you need extra support, be kind to yourself, lean on practices that feel good, or reach out to someone you trust. Both self care and community care go a long way.
